Many people think of Japan as cold and wet, but the country has some of the most stunning views during the summer months. Here are some of our favorite places to visit in Japan during summertime!

Tokyo
During summer, Tokyo is a bustling city filled with people trying to escape the heat. However, there are still plenty of beautiful places to visit. The top five most beautiful places to visit in Tokyo during summer are: the Meiji Shrine, the Senso-ji Temple, the Tokyo Skytree, the Jingu Gaien Gardens, and the Zojo-ji Temple. Each place has its own unique history and atmosphere that makes it worth visiting. For example, the Meiji Shrine was built by Emperor Meiji as an homage to his late wife Empress Shoken. It features traditional architectural styles such as shoinzukuri and minka vernacular architecture. The Senso-ji Temple on the other hand dates back more than 1,300 years ago and remains one of Tokyo’s most popular tourist attractions. It offers visitors several temples, shops, restaurants, and even entertainment districts. While the Meiji Shrine honors Emperor Meiji’s departed wife Empress Shoken and the Senso-ji Temple commemorates Buddha’s arrival in Japan after being saved from evil demons that were obstructing him at sea, both sites offer tourists breathtaking views of nature and culture alike. Alongside these two historic sites, Tokyo also boasts the modern Tokyo Skytree which stands 2,080 feet tall. Built in 2012, this tower is now the tallest structure in Japan and provides stunning 360 degree views of all of metropolitan Tokyo for those who dare to take the skywalk! Finally, for those looking for something a little more spiritual yet just as beautiful, Zojo-ji Temple might be perfect. Dating back to 1253 AD when it was first founded by Shinran Shujuo-zenji (the founder of Pure Land Buddhism), this temple has been home to several important events including Yukiko Fujikawa (the only female Japanese Buddhist nun) taking her vows here in 1602 AD. One can imagine how different life must have been back then – especially for women! While some things have changed over time, Zojo-ji Temple continues to stand strong today and welcomes anyone interested in exploring its gardens or visiting one of the many daily services. There are many beautiful places to visit in Tokyo during summertime; however, these five spots will not disappoint.

Kyoto

  1. Kyoto is a beautiful city located in central Japan.
  2. It is known for its many temples and shrines, as well as its stunning scenery.
  3. Kyoto is especially beautiful during summer, when the weather is warm and the flowers are in bloom.
  4. Visitors can enjoy the city’s lush gardens, quaint streets, and stunning architecture.
  5. Kyoto is also home to a number of excellent restaurants, cafes, and shops.
  6. If you’re looking for a beautiful place to visit during summer, Kyoto should definitely be at the top of your list!

Hiroshima and Miyajima Island
If you’re looking for a breathtaking place to visit in Japan during summer, Hiroshima and Miyajima Island should definitely be at the top of your list. From the bright red torii gates of Miyajima Island to the stunning views of the cityscape from atop the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, there’s no shortage of beauty to behold in this part of the country. Here are just a few of the reasons why Hiroshima and Miyajima Island should be at the top of your travel list this summer: The beautiful sunsets seen from various locations around the island, including Sensoji Temple, Isuzu Hall, Nagisa Park and Okunoshima; having dinner on a boat as it glides along the Seto Inland Sea before stopping off at one of Hiroshima’s many restaurants; exploring some of Hiroshima’s most famous attractions like A-Bomb Dome and Genbaku Dome; riding one of the many ferries that shuttle back and forth between mainland Japan and Miyajima Island. There are so many great places to explore in Hiroshima and Miyajima Island, you won’t want to miss out! Some highlights include visiting Shinjo Castle, taking a cable car up Mount Misen, or getting your hands on some locally grown strawberries if you happen to visit in late June. And with plenty of sightseeing opportunities located throughout the day, it doesn’t matter if you prefer hiking early in the morning or biking at night – there’s something for everyone here! This is why Hiroshima and Miyajima Island should be at the top of your list when considering where to go this summer. With their beautiful sights, exciting activities, delicious food and rich history, they’ll have you coming back for more year after year.

Osaka
If you’re looking for a lively city with plenty to see and do, Osaka is the perfect place for you. From the neon lights of Dotonbori to the peaceful atmosphere of Sumiyoshi Taisha, there’s something for everyone in Osaka. And of course, no trip to Osaka would be complete without trying some of the delicious food on offer. From street food to Michelin-starred restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice. One thing’s for sure: you won’t go hungry in Osaka! Tokyo: As well as being one of the most populous cities in the world, Tokyo is also one of the most exciting places to visit during summer. The best way to explore this vast metropolis is by jumping on a train and heading off into unknown territory. One word of warning though – prepare yourself for lots of walking! A lot of people don’t realise that it takes an average person roughly 2 hours to walk from Shinjuku Station (Tokyo’s busiest station) to Shibuya Station (the second busiest station). So make sure you wear comfortable shoes! Kyoto: Arguably the most picturesque city in all of Japan, Kyoto offers visitors both historical sites and modern entertainment opportunities. Whether you want to learn about Buddhism at Kinkakuji or enjoy a round of golf at Kanebo Golf Club, Kyoto has it all. It doesn’t matter if you’re here for business or pleasure; Kyoto will delight every sense. Himeji Castle: Himeji Castle remains one of the finest examples of Japanese architecture anywhere in the country, not just in Himeji itself but across Japan too. Visitors can expect to find traditional gardens, manicured hedges and ornamental trees alongside natural wonders like the Shirasagi Maru Garden.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site should definitely be top of your list when exploring in Japan. Matsumoto: Not only does Matsumoto have spectacular views of Mount Yatsugatake, it also boasts some fantastic nightlife! You can enjoy everything from drinking sake in traditional machiya houses to catching a show at an old movie theatre. There are plenty of ways to unwind after exploring these beautiful surroundings – so pack your bags now and get ready for your next adventure! Takayama: Known for its beautiful mountains, Takayama attracts visitors with its rustic atmosphere and traditional buildings. For those who love to eat, Takayama is a must. You’ll find over 120 stores and stalls selling the region’s specialties, including pickles, rice wine and soy sauce. With plenty of great tourist attractions in the area, you’re guaranteed to have a great time!

Hokkaido
If you’re looking for a breathtaking summer destination, look no further than Hokkaido, Japan. This picturesque island is home to some of the most stunning scenery in the country, from mountains and forests to crystal-clear lakes. In addition to its natural beauty, Hokkaido is also a great place to enjoy the outdoors, with plenty of hiking and camping opportunities. And if you want to cool off after a long day of exploring, you can always take a dip in one of the island’s many hot springs. One of the best places to visit during summer is Shakotan, a quaint fishing village on the northern tip of Hokkaido. You’ll be treated to spectacular views that extend out over open ocean, and it’s well worth stopping by even just for lunch! There are plenty of cozy little cafes to choose from where you can eat fresh seafood and wash it down with locally brewed beer or sake. If you’re not feeling too adventurous, there are still plenty of other activities available at Shakotan. The coastal town offers boat tours and fishing trips as well as horseback riding and trekking through nearby nature preserves. But regardless of what you decide to do while visiting this amazing town, make sure to stop by Chitose Oshima National Park while you’re there! It will be absolutely worth your time. A short drive away from the center of Shakotan is Lake Tofutsu. With its beautiful clear water, scenic beaches, and hidden caves, it’s easy to see why so many visitors come here every year. While Lake Tofutsu may seem like an ideal place for relaxation and exploration, visitors should be aware that kayaking here requires special permits so please check before planning your trip! Just outside Shakotan is Enga Hot Springs – perfect for taking a break after all that sightseeing. Visitors should note that bathing suits are required when entering the indoor pools but they can go into the outdoor pools without them (bathing suits required in those too). Also, don’t forget to get your hair washed! For ¥500, you can have a professional shampooing and scalp massage. To really experience local culture, head to Naruko Onsen. Located deep in the woods behind Enga Hot Springs, Naruko Onsen has been operating since 1875 and has served as one of Japan’s best spas ever since. After enjoying delicious local food at the restaurant overlooking the onsen pool, guests are welcome to stay overnight in traditional Japanese cottages for an unforgettable night.
